Frequently Asked Questions

Below you can find answers to our most popular (non-film trivia-related) questions - just click to expand. And if you can't find the answer you're looking for, drop us an email.

how is it different to any other pub quiz?

You’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat is a multimedia extravaganza projected onto a big screen (the only way a quiz dedicated entirely to movies should be shown!).

We don't just ask you questions about films, we show you!

where is the quiz held?

We screen each month's quiz twice in London and once in Los Angeles. In London we're in the West End at the Flamingo Room (O'Neill's Wardour Street) and in Brixton at the Upstairs at the Ritzy bar (above the Ritzy Cinema). In Los Angeles, we're at The Three Clubs in Hollywood (please note these are all the same quiz each month!).

What time does it start?

In London, we start handing out quiz sheets around 7.00pm ready for a 7.30pm start. However, to ensure you get a good seat, get a round in and be ready for our intro video, you should aim to be there as early as you can! Our Hollywood quiz is a matinee affair, pop along after lunch for 2.30pm.

How many people do I need/can I have on a team?

We don’t have any official restrictions on team size. You can have as many or as few people as you like. However, if your group is particularly large we may ask you to split into two smaller teams.

Can I reserve a table?

All tables are set aside for people playing the quiz. We generally do not take reservations for individual teams - it's first come, first served as far as seating goes - however, for teams coming to the West End quiz if you buy five or more tickets in one transaction we'll reserve you one of the large tables to make sure you can all sit together (but you'll have to claim the table by 7pm).

What can I win?

The winners and runners up get to select from film-related goodies including cinema tickets, T-shirts, DVD/Blu-ray boxsets etc.

We also have a STOP! round, where the first person to guess the answer from a list of clues wins a spot prize.

What sorts of questions do you ask?

If your idea of a pub quiz is some old fella reading questions from a scrappy bit of paper, then think again (though we are getting on a bit now). The Bigger Boat film quiz is the original big-screen, big-sound experience, bringing you pictures, posters, clips and soundtracks from the world of movies.

Why do I recognise the name?

It's a very famous quote from a very famous film. And if you already know which one, you're in the top half of the scoreboard already!

what does it cost?

A ticket to the quiz show costs £10 per person, inclusive of all ticketing fees. As we usually sell out in before the quiz, we recommend you buy in advance to avoid disappointment, which you can do from the links on the homepage.
